WHAT MAKES A GREAT LOGO DESIGN?

We have a special love for purpose driven companies.  Companies that drive innovation and creativity drive our future.  Being a vision driven company is important to building your brand.  Your brand begins with the why you started your company or the purpose for your company’s existence.  We created this post in order to help inspire companies planning their company’s brand image, corporate identity or marketing plans.  Though this list is not conclusive, we’ve devised 7 characteristics of great logo design to help you in designing, selecting or updating your company’s logo.

Less Is More: KISS (Keep it simple stupid)

Memorable

Being one of the most important components of your business image, making sure your logo is memorable is vital.  Your team members, customers and suppliers must be able to recognize your logo, icon or tag line individually.  This demonstrates just how memorable you really are.  Keeping your logo simple helps this.

Timeless

Flexible

Your logo must work on different displays and mediums.  Does it look just as good in black and white as it does in color?  As your company grows, keep in mind print, web, video, and the rest of the various mediums that your logo would be required to be flexible to display distinctly and memorable.

Unique and Original

Unique Logo Design by The Anstad GroupThe originality of your logo design must be kept in mind as you create or select your new logo.  Looking similar to another logo could make you more easy to forget than to remember.  Using any form of clip art in your logo design is definite no-no if you’re taking your company serious about building your brand.  Any sort of template logos causes your potential customer to take you as serious as you’ve taken your logo.  Copy cat logos diminish the credibility of your company.  Think Original.

Relevance

This returns to the why you started your company in the first place.  How relevant is your company to your customer or target market?  Does your logo convey the message of your company to your customer effectively?  Making sure that your logo is appropriate based on your industry is very important.  Marketing to children is very different from marketing to construction companies.  The meaning of your company’s marketing message begins with the logo so making sure it is relevant is critical.

One of the greatest known for these characteristics is the world famous swoosh.
Just to show how great, I didn’t need to say Nike for you to recognize who I was speaking about.
